UGANDA COMMUNITY MONITORS CHECK UP ON COMMITMENTS

White Ribbon Alliance Uganda have been training community monitors for maternal and newborn health in Amach & Agali sub-counties, Lira District. They are equipped with skills, information and tools to monitor health budget implementation, budget expenditure tracking and assessing progress in provision of life-saving services for pregnant women and newborns.

The new community monitors met with health workers, ‎midwives‬‬ and leaders to assess maternal and newborn health care services including renovation of the area operating theatre which is vital for treating women with obstetric complications at Amach Health Centre IV in Lira District.

Involving citizens in monitoring progress of commitments at community level has led to some key accomplishments including houses for health workers, improved stocking of essential medicines and supplies for Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care among others.
